This post is a part of the 2015 New Beer Every Day Beer Diary Challenge, #ottbeerdiary. Over the course of 2015, I will be trying a new beer every day. Please read the background in the link above, and enjoy reading about the most recently tasted beers below. If you’d like to join the challenge as well, let me know in the comments below, and be sure to check out Grown-up Travel Guide and his #grownupbeerdiary, where Andy Higgs came up with the diary format in use below. Day 128: May 8, 2015
Diary entry:
Switched hotels today, moving from Platja d’Aro up to Pals, where we had received a TBEX reservation for the La Costa Golf & Beach Resort.
But of course, we had to road trip our way there, heading up past Pals first to Cadaqués on the Cap de Creus. This detour was, of course, food and drink related, as our mission was lunch at Compartir, a restaurant run by three former chefs at El Bulli, and then a drink at Bar Boia, which is run by El Bulli’s former bartender.
Success on the lunch front. Compartir was delicious! We found Bar Boia as well, but unfortunately, the cocktails only start at 7PM when Bar Boia transforms into Boia Nit. We had plans for dinner at the hotel, so had to settle for a Sangria with the view. Will definitely return, and hopefully will spend the night in town next time so we can fully explore the cocktails at Boia Nit!
Our dinner for the night is at La Costa restaurant at the La Costa Golf and Beach Resort, our hotel for our last night in Costa Brava. The whole intent is to try some local products. Rice from Pals. Rockfish from Begur. Which we enjoyed immensely.
The Beer:
Name: Voll-Damm Doble Malta
Style: Imperial IPA
Producer: Grupo Damm
Alcohol content: 7.2%
Bottle size: 0.33l Can
Purchased from: A gas station along the C-31 highway between Cadaques and Pals, in Verges, Spain
Picked up a can of Voll-Damm Doble Malta on the drive to the hotel, as this is one I saw on some menus that I had not tried before. The beer was bitter, the type of bitter you get from a pilsner beer. It was also very sweet from the malts. Too sweet for my taste.
Commercial Description:
Double malt beer of the Märzenbier type with an intense and unmistakable flavour. The addition of malt twice in the process makes a beer with body and exceptional flavour, recognised by many international brewers.
