This post is a part of the 2015 New Beer Every Day Beer Diary Challenge, #ottbeerdiary. Over the course of 2015, I will be trying a new beer every day. Please read the background in the link above, and enjoy reading about the most recently tasted beers below. If you’d like to join the challenge as well, let me know in the comments below, and be sure to check out Grown-up Travel Guide and his #grownupbeerdiary, where Andy Higgs came up with the diary format in use below. Day 238: August 26, 2015
Diary entry:
Last day at work this week, since I am heading to Brussels tonight for the European Beer Bloggers and Writers Conference (#EBBC15 if you wish to follow along).
But of course, first a full day of work. At first I had hoped for just a half day, but the meeting requests kept pouring in, and next thing I knew, it was 6PM and I had to even excuse myself from a last meeting in order to get on the road.
I’m staying in Brussels at Hotel Marivaux, a nice, classic-Hollywood-themed hotel in the North of the city center, a short walk to the Grand Place and all the main sights of the city. Beautiful hotel room, though not much of a view — yeah, I have to keep the drapes shut so the next room isn’t looking in 🙂 This is also the venue for the conference, so that’s quite convenient.
Met up with a few of the other bloggers who are attending this weekend, and we had our own impromptu pub crawl. Bier Circus, À la Mort Subite, Scott’s Bar, and Moeder Lambic.
A few good beers were tried, and good company shared.
Ardenne Stout by Brasserie de Bastogne (Bier Circus) – Very nice! Lots of chocolate.
Gueuze by Brouwerij Mort Subite (Mort Subite) – Surprisingly decent Gueuze sur Lie. Nice sourness and funk.
Triple by Ferme Brasserie de Bertinchamps (Scott’s) – Decent. But a bit too sweet for my liking.
Catherine Wheel by Bellwoods Brewery (Moeder Lambic) – Decent bitterness. Nice.
La Vermontoise by Brasserie de Blaugies (Moeder Lambic) – Too sweet and skunky for me.
Oud Bruin by Brouwers Verzet (Moeder Lambic) – Love sours like this one!
And the beer of the night…
The Beer:

20+1 Years Bier Circus by Vrouwerij Den Hopperd. Great first beer of #ebbc15. Sadly missed the group here. Had to meet up with them at the next stop! This beer had a great flavor. Nice bitterness, fruity undertones. A lovely Belgian Tripel!
