This post is a part of the 2015 New Beer Every Day Beer Diary Challenge, #ottbeerdiary. Over the course of 2015, I will be trying a new beer every day. Please read the background in the link above, and enjoy reading about the most recently tasted beers below. If you’d like to join the challenge as well, let me know in the comments below, and be sure to check out Grown-up Travel Guide and his #grownupbeerdiary, where Andy Higgs came up with the diary format in use below. You can catch up on all of our posts as part of the challenge under the tag ottbeerdiary.
Day 12: January 12, 2015
Diary entry:
Back to work after a relaxing weekend.
Spent the morning in a building I’ve never been in before. Nice building, actually! A bit further away from our main campus of buildings, but definitely newer looking, and more open rooms for meetings. I’m back there later this week, but in the “twin building” next door I had been in before.
Work itself is still a little bit in flux. Still waiting to see how everything gets organized…but we’re just plugging ahead, since we know our deadlines will be very tight once everything is back and flowing.
Another visit to the gym. Let’s see how long I can keep that up…
The Beer:
Name: Abbaye des Rocs Spéciale Noël
Style: Belgian Strong Dark Ale
Producer: Brasserie De L’Abbaye Des Rocs
Alcohol content: 9.0%
Bottle size: 0.33l
Purchased from: De Hopduvel, Ghent, Belgium
I picked up the Abbaye des Rocs Spéciale Noël during my early January roadtrip to Ghent. Abbaye des Rocs has always been one of my favorite beers, with the Bruin being one of the first Belgian beers I ever truly loved. The Triple Imperiale remains one of my all-time favorite beers!
Dark, Fruity flavors, with some hops bitterness. I was worried at first that this was going to be a gusher, but I managed to pour before it was able to erupt from the bottle. Definitely a little on the sweeter side, but the alcohol and fruit flavors manage to keep the sweetness under control. I enjoyed it quite a bit! One of the better Christmas beers.
