If you’re from the Northeast United States, when you think of Craft Beer, one of the first names that will likely come to mind is Dogfish Head. With their selection of eight year-round brews, four seasonal offerings, and more than 20 special limited offerings (some of them pushing the alcohol envelope at close to 20% ABV), they’re sure to have something for every beer lover’s palate!
Dogfish Head is probably best known for their IPA’s, with their original 90 Minute IPA, the 60 Minute IPA, and one of the most sought after brews in America, the 120 Minute IPA. Each of these is a continually hopped beer, being on boil and hopped for 90, 60, and, get this, 120 minutes respectively, before undergoing dry-hopping during conditioning. The Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA was the first selection from the brewery I ever tried, and one of my local pubs in Connecticut even had it on tap (along with bottles of the 60 minute and Shelter Pale Ale) I was also lucky enough to pick up a few bottles of the 120 Minute IPA at one of the local package stores (beer/wine/liquor retailors), along with some of their limited, higher alcohol content offerings, such as Raison D Extra, World Wide Stout and Old School Barleywine, some of which are still sitting in storage back home.
Dogfish Head will be celebrating American Craft Beer Week at their brewery in Milton, Deleware and brewpub in Rehobeth Beach, Delaware, with tours, tastings, seminars and a Declaration of Beer Independence for you to sign. They’re also kicking off the events at the brewpub on Monday, May 16 by tapping their first 2011 batch of the 120 Minute IPA!
