Day 62: March 3, 2015
Diary entry:
Flew in to JFK on the red-eye from LAX last night on Delta. Flight as delayed almost an hour leaving LAX, but no matter. I luckily had managed to get myself upgraded, and was asleep on the plane before takeoff and didn’t wake again until we were close to landing. No drink service. No meal. Just sleep. Amazing how much this is possible on a nice, lie-flat, business class seat.
Still, however, we landed just before 6AM, and after picking up my bags and rental car, I had to drive through NYC rush hour traffic to Connecticut, and straight to the office in Wilton for a few presentations. And of course, around 3PM, the snow started coming down quite hard.
Upon arriving at the hotel, taking a nice shower, and seeing all these beautiful bottles from the Bruery sitting in my suitcase, my plans of going out for dinner started to diminish, and I decided to crack open the oldest one of the beers here that should be enjoyed fresh.
The Beer:
Name: Beauregarde
Style: Sour Ale
Producer: The Bruery
Alcohol content: 5.3%
Bottle size: 1 pint, 9.4 fl. oz.
Purchased from: The Bruery
This was a 2013 Reserve Society exclusive, that I managed to pick up on a re-release in 2014. Unfiltered and bottle-conditioned. Sour Bonde Ale Aged in Oak with Blueberries. This is a truly delicious beer! Great reddish-purple color. A beautiful vanilla aroma with sour undertones. And the flavor is sour with plenty of the blueberries and vanilla. One of the best beers I’ve had this year!
Commercial Description: We added loads of blueberries to this sour blond ale, giving it a color as deep as its flavor.
