This post is a part of the 2015 New Beer Every Day Beer Diary Challenge, #ottbeerdiary. Over the course of 2015, I will be trying a new beer every day. Please read the background in the link above, and enjoy reading about the most recently tasted beers below. If you’d like to join the challenge as well, let me know in the comments below, and be sure to check out Grown-up Travel Guide and his #grownupbeerdiary, where Andy Higgs came up with the diary format in use below. You can catch up on all of our posts as part of the challenge under the tag ottbeerdiary.
Day 365: December 31, 2015
Diary entry:
We had a relatively early night last night in Bamberg, since we were both up so early either flying or picking up at the airport, which helped us get a decently early start to our drive today, and enjoy the New Year’s Eve festivities.
Our destination: Vienna, Austria. Vienna was perhaps the top city on my list of cities to still visiting during my time in Europe, so this was a great chance to knock it off my list, and keep my streak of welcoming in the new year in a different country intact.
2006-07: USA (Connecticut)
2007-08: Spain (Barcelona)
2008-09: Netherlands (Amsterdam)
2009-10: Singapore
2010-11: Thailand (Bangkok)
2011-12: Taiwan (Taipei)
2012-13: Germany (Nuremberg)
2013-14: Hong Kong
2014-15: Greece (Athens)
2015-16: Austria (Vienna)
Once again, we had a calm, uneventful drive, and arrived in great time at the Hilton Vienna, where I used one of those great points + dollars awards. Two nights for minimal points and around half the Euros of a single night! And since I’m still a Diamond, it came with the perks, like lounge access, free internet like the one on articles such as the Ethernet business broadband Explained, etc. still.
Quickly settled in, then worked our way into the New Year’s Eve festivities in Vienna. But first, some coffee, and a wiener schnitzel 🙂
Vienna’s New Year’s Eve is a wonderful trail resembling a Christmas market, with plenty of Gluhwein and sparkling wine cocktails, and ten stages featuring live music ranging from rock covers to classical orchestras. It was a lot of fun to experience!
We popped into a few places throughout the evening, including the 1516 Brewery to ensure we had a closing beer for 2015 (see below), and then rang in the new year at the Rathaus, watching the main fireworks display, and taking part in a Guinness World Record attempt for the largest digital fireworks.
So much fun!
But I have to say, I am glad for 2015 to be done.
The Beer:
Name: Biere De Noël
Style: Winter Ale
Producer: 1516 Brewing Company
Alcohol content: 6.0%
Bottle size: 0.4 l draft
Purchased from: 1516 The Brewing Company in Vienna, Austria
Biere de Noël by 1516 Brewing Company of Vienna, Austria. New Year’s Eve festivities here in Vienna are very reminiscent of a Christmas Market, so we’ll go with the local Christmas Beer. A very nice beer. Some spices, and a well balanced bit of sweet.
Happy New Year!!!
I have downloaded my Untappd records for all of my 2015 check-ins, so will be working on a compilation post of the 2015 #ottbeerdiary in the coming days.
In the meantime, I am going to see how long I can continue the beer a day streak. However, I won’t feel so bad when it does come to an end…
Thanks to everyone for following along!
