This post is a part of the 2015 New Beer Every Day Beer Diary Challenge, #ottbeerdiary. Over the course of 2015, I will be trying a new beer every day. Please read the background in the link above, and enjoy reading about the most recently tasted beers below. If you’d like to join the challenge as well, let me know in the comments below, and be sure to check out Grown-up Travel Guide and his #grownupbeerdiary, where Andy Higgs came up with the diary format in use below. You can catch up on all of our posts as part of the challenge under the tag ottbeerdiary.
Day 25: January 25, 2015
Diary entry:
Did I say I slept in yesterday? That was nothing compared to today.
Weekends are meant for traveling, but every now and then, it’s needed to just take it easy.
Next weekend is the Superbowl, so I’ll be needing to find somewhere to watch the game still…that’ll be my mission for this week.
The Beer:
Name: Braggot Brett
Style: Braggot
Producer: Brouwerij De Molen
Alcohol content: 8.5%
Bottle size: 0.33l
Purchased from: De Hopduvel in Ghent.
Braggot Brett by Brouwerij De Molen. Carnivale Brettanomyces festival 2014 Amsterdam special — Braggot with pilsner and caramalt, saaz for bittering. Barrel aged on Wild Turkey and Bordeaux barrels with brett. Lagered with pine honey.
Pretty close to heaven in a glass. Not much head or carbonation. Sweet and sour on the aroma. Honey and caramel. A raisiny, honey sweetness, with some caramel for a bit of Tootsie Roll. Sourness that gives a feel of finely aged balsamic vinegar. The barrel aging blended beautifully into this beer.

Ah, De Molen- this really makes me miss living in the Netherlands. We loved visiting t’Arendsnest in Amsterdam and drinking beers like these.
I also miss watching the Super Bowl at Coco’s Outback in Rembrantplein. If you were in Amsterdam and looking for a lively time, I’d say go there. They usually have a couple decent beers, nothing like this though! 🙂
Coco’s. Check. The years I’ve been here for the Super bowl, I’ve usually wound up at O’Shea’s in Eindhoven, but haven’t had a chance to stop by to ensure they’ll be open this year for it. It’s always been easier on those years when the Super Bowl fell during Carnaval, as the bars are open later on Sunday then…but not this year. If Eindhoven doesn’t pan out, I’ll give Coco’s a shot.
