This post is a part of the 2015 New Beer Every Day Beer Diary Challenge, #ottbeerdiary. Over the course of 2015, I will be trying a new beer every day. Please read the background in the link above, and enjoy reading about the most recently tasted beers below. Day 45: February 14, 2015
Diary entry:
Today was a day to play tour guide for two visitors from the States. Bright and early start, as I planed to meet them at the Brussels airport for the 8:10 arrival. When I woke at 6, their plane was showing a 7:33 scheduled arrival, so I knew I had to hurry.
Sure I did…
The plane landed at 7:46. And it sat on the tarmac until the monitor finally showed that they were at the gate and disembarked at 8:39! It was 9:15 by the time we left the airport.
In the end, though, not an issue, as Cantillon didn’t open until 10, and we still arrived with more than 15 minutes to spare.
A fun day of beer and World War I tourism, with stops at Cantillon, Flanders Field American Cemetery, Menin Gate in Ypres, Westvleteren (In de Vrede), De Struise, and Brugge for dinner before a nightcap at Moeder Lambic in Brussels. Decided to grab a hotel room in Brussels, since it was way too late to be heading back to Eindhoven…
The Beer:
Name: Capsoul
Style: Belgian Strong Dark Ale
Producer: De Struise Brouwers
Alcohol content: 10.0%
Bottle size: Draft 0.08l
Purchased from: De Struise Brouwers
Today included another visit to De Struise, one of my favorite breweries in Belgium, both in their beers, and to visit. I was there just a few weeks, so wasn’t expecting too many new beers to be able to try today, but they had a few nice additions that weren’t on the agenda in January.
My favorite beer of the tasting was the Capsoul, which is their Pannepot Strong Dark Ale recipe, but with the additional blending in of both a Pedro Ximinez Barrel Aged edition, as well as a Muscatal Barrel Aged edition. These added great additional flavors to what is already an excellent beer!
