This post is a part of the 2015 New Beer Every Day Beer Diary Challenge, #ottbeerdiary. Over the course of 2015, I will be trying a new beer every day. Please read the background in the link above, and enjoy reading about the most recently tasted beers below. If you’d like to join the challenge as well, let me know in the comments below, and be sure to check out Grown-up Travel Guide and his #grownupbeerdiary, where Andy Higgs came up with the diary format in use below. You can catch up on all of our posts as part of the challenge under the tag ottbeerdiary.
Day 284: October 11, 2015
Diary entry:
A nice relaxing Sunday morning, sitting on the couch, reading some news and blogs.
Did some work on blog topics in the afternoon, then had an invite come in from a coworker to join for the Pizza Port tap takeover at Van Moll in Eindhoven, which also coincided with Van Moll’s second anniversary celebration.
This was quite a surprise, actually, as I really had no intention of going anywhere near Eindhoven today, being the day of the annual Eindhoven IAK Marathon, one of the busiest days of the year in the city. It was pretty crowded, but I arrived around 5PM, so the crowds had definitely dissipated a little.
Dinner was back to comfort food, with the realized intent of ordering in delivery of some shoarma / doner from the nearby Egyptian restaurant. Enough to last us for two night’s dinner as well as a couple lunches.
The Beer:
Name: Carlsbad Raceway
Style: American IPA
Producer: Pizza Port
Alcohol content: 7.0%
Bottle size: .15 l draft
Purchased from: Van Moll in Eindhoven
Carlsbad Raceway by Pizza Port. A very nice citrusy bitterness. A fine west coast America IPA. 7% abv.
Was fun to enjoy this beer, and talk with the head brewer from Pizza Port Carlsbad, Mike Aubuchon. I had a few Pizza Port beers during my time in San Diego, but am sad to say I never actually made it to one of their brewpubs. After trying a nice selection of their beers today, including a few of their beers that were on their last kegs anywhere, I’ll be sure to pay them a visit next time I’m in the neighborhood!
