This post is a part of the 2015 New Beer Every Day Beer Diary Challenge, #ottbeerdiary. Over the course of 2015, I will be trying a new beer every day. Please read the background in the link above, and enjoy reading about the most recently tasted beers below. If you’d like to join the challenge as well, let me know in the comments below, and be sure to check out Grown-up Travel Guide and his #grownupbeerdiary, where Andy Higgs came up with the diary format in use below. You can catch up on all of our posts as part of the challenge under the tag ottbeerdiary.
Day 193: July 12, 2015
Diary entry:
Took it easy today, sleeping in and resting in the morning, before heading over to Tilburg for a movie later in the day.
I did pop into Café Kandinsky for a beer before the movie, since I have to walk past on the way to the theater anyway, and tried the Weißen Löwen by De Witte Leeuw (5% Dunkelweisen). This beer was a little watery, some bitter hidden underneath.
After the movie, I popped over to Cafe Hoegarden, where I tried Amai Tripel by Reuzenbieren (7.5% belgian Tripel), brewed especially for the cafe. This one had quite a bit of bitterness and no fruit to speak of. A little surprising for a tripel, but right up my alley!
I also tried the Paix-Dieu by Brasserie Caulier (10% Belgian Tripel), from draft. This was a 2015, but no info on what month, the tap card only says the year. Fruitier, a bit more sweet, little bitterness.
But before I went into Tilburg, I had my official beer of the day…
The Beer:
Name: Chateau Migraine
Style: Sour Ale
Producer: Brouwerij Het Alternatief
Alcohol content: 10.0%
Bottle size: 0.75l
Purchased from: De Hopduvel in Ghent, Belgium
Great sour flavor over a nice, dark base. Love the balance. You don’t catch the 10% abv at all. Suppose that’s where the migraine should come in?
Commercial Description: Brown beer aged for one year in wine barrels, mixed with Mano Negra from Alvinne.
