This post is a continuation of the 2015 New Beer Every Day Beer Diary Challenge, #ottbeerdiary. Over the course of 2015, I drank at least one new beer every day. Please read the background in the link above, and enjoy reading about the most recently tasted beers below. This year I may deviate from the diary format in some posts, hoping to concentrate more on the locations and the breweries I am enjoying. If you’d like to join the challenge as well, let me know in the comments below. You can catch up on all of our posts as part of the challenge under the tag ottbeerdiary.
Day 373: January 8, 2016
Diary entry:
A morning full of meetings is always a perfect way to end the week. Usually my Fridays are fairly quiet, but this morning I had a full agenda of sessions on all three projects.
Probably a good thing, as it allowed me to keep my mind off of the impending health exam in the afternoon.
Having the blood drawn just after the Christmas break, with a number of beer festivals, lots of gluhwein, Schnitzels, the frites in Brussels. I can’t wait to see those numbers for cholesterol and blood sugar. Getting ready for the bad news that I have to stop with the beer diary.
The exam time came around, and I started off strong, having a lot of difficulty with the eye test. I made it through the first row I said I could handle, but failed miserably on the next own down. And then the hearing test. Say what?
Next up, the EKG and the cycling test. UGH! SO looking forward to hearing the results…
…which were fine!
Apparently the row I started with on the eye test was already a row beyond the normal, the 30/20 row, so while I had trouble with the next row that was the 40/20 row! And my hearing was in the normal range as well (except for some really high pitches in the left ear). Normal heart rhythms, and believe it or not, healthy levels of cholesterol and blood sugars.
No excuse not to join my colleagues at Van Moll for a beer…celebratory instead of consolatory.
I was a bit late, however, as they started at 3PM and my appointment was as 3:20, so I didn’t get to Van Moll until almost 6PM, as they were preparing to leave. I only had time for one beer with them, a draft of the Raspberry Quadrupel by Mikkeller (13% ABV – LOTS of fruit flavor. Sour and chocolaty, but a bit over the top) but did make plans to join them tomorrow for a beer tasting at one of their homes. Another friend was also there, so I had my beer of the day with him, and also made plans for a beer festival in Gouda next weekend. A productive evening!
The Beer:

Christmas Idjit! by Dugges Ale- & Porterbryggeri AB, located on the west coast of Sweden. Wow. This is a Christmas beer? Well, Merry Christmas! So many flavors…Coffee. Dark roasted malts. Caramel. A little nutty, and the faintest hint of vanilla. I like this beer! A lot!
