This post is a part of the 2015 New Beer Every Day Beer Diary Challenge, #ottbeerdiary. Over the course of 2015, I will be trying a new beer every day. Please read the background in the link above, and enjoy reading about the most recently tasted beers below. If you’d like to join the challenge as well, let me know in the comments below, and be sure to check out Grown-up Travel Guide and his #grownupbeerdiary, where Andy Higgs came up with the diary format in use below. Day 156: June 5, 2015
Diary entry:
Such as interesting drive to Paris today. We got on the road around 10:30 AM, and other than the normal weekday truck traffic on the ring around Antwerp, we had no traffic issues at all through Belgium and down through Charles de Gaulle Airport North of Paris.
For the final leg when we have to cut from the North of Paris southeast towards Marne la Vallee, there was some traffic, but we weren’t caught off guard there.
What did catch us off guard was the lunatic driver who wasn’t happy that he didn’t get to cut in front of us in the merge, and proceeded to spend the next 10 km or so riding inches from my read, throwing stuff at the vehicle, getting out of his car twice trying to start fighting, and in general trying to cause a wreck!
We tried calling the Paris 1-1-2 number three times, and were hung up on twice, and the third time, we finally had someone who who put us on hold trying to find a translator, and eventually that person also didn’t speak English!
That was the scariest part of all, knowing that in the case of an emergency in Paris, you’re totally out of luck with calling the local “9-1-1” equivalent!
We have plenty of video of the guy though, including some of hi banging on my driver’s side window trying to get me out of the car.
Fun!
Eventually the lunatic got off the highway and we made it to our hotel, and after an hour or two to calm down, we had a nice evening at a very empty Paris Disneyland, riding some of our favorite attractions, and seeing the Frozen- Summer Fun themed area and “parade”.
The Beer:
Name: Darkness Travels Light
Style: Belgian Blonde / Golden
Producer: Tongval
Alcohol content: 8.0%
Bottle size: 0.33l
Purchased from: Den Gouwen Aar in Gouda, the Netherlands
The first beer from the relatively new, small Dutch brewery, Tongval. Gypsy brewed at ‘t Hofbrouwerijke in Belgium.
Darkness travels light by at the close of every day is the inspiration music for this beer in the Audio Beer series from Tongval. At the close of every day are “dutch melancholics that spread the new night music…” They’re also part of the team behind Tongval.
I brought this beer down to Paris with me, and kept it cool in the fridge at the hotel while we went to the Park. The hotel fridge was way too cold, but as the beer warmed up, it was quite tasty! More bitter than fruity. Extremely enjoyable!
Commercial Description: Audiobeer is part of Tongval, a new beer brand that Minco of at the close of every day started with two friends early 2014. Audiobeer combines two great joys in life; special beers & sweet music.
This is a specially brewed beer by our own unique recipe. ‘darkness travels light’ is a barley full beer with a little fruity but soft bitter taste.
