Day 186: July 5, 2015
Diary entry:
Another day of relaxed sightseeing today. We started with a visit over to the Sherlock Holmes museum on Baker Street, and then wandered over to Shoreditch for some coffee and food trucks.
Th Dinerama / Street Feast Shoreditch is a very nice mix of food trucks offering a wide range of gourmet street foods. I really enjoyed my Duck ‘n Roll Burger “Signature” – Shredded Duck with Sweet Onions, Crunchy Salad & Spicy Basque Sauce, with a slice of Pan-Fried Foie Gras, served in a Toasted Brioche. And the Masala fries were so good, we had to go back for a second order. There were a couple of dishes I’d love to go back and try that I missed this time around.
From Shoreditch we wandered down through the City of London and the various markets dotted around the city until we reached the Tower of London, and then made dinner plans to meet some old friends of my sister and niece from their time living in Singapore.
The Beer:
Name: Dirty Stop Out
Style: Smoked Oat Stout
Producer: Tiny Rebel Brewing Co
Alcohol content: 5.0%
Bottle size: 0.33l
Purchased from: The Union Tavern near Notting Hill, London.
We had a pretty good-sized group of eight here today, including 5 adults and three children, but the Union Tavern had no trouble accommodating us. They had a nice selection of beers on tap, but an even better bottle selection behind the bar, including a few from Wales, where I had never tried a beer from before.
My favorite from the bunch was the Dirty Stop Out smoked oat stout, which had a nice smokey flavor on top of the 9 different malts.
Commercial Description:
Dirty Stop Out is our smoked oat stout that has all the characteristics of a heavy night out – Complex, dark, with hints of smokiness and perfume aromas. A blend of 9 malts matched up with a firmly hopped back bone make this a very self assured stout.
