This post is a part of the 2015 New Beer Every Day Beer Diary Challenge, #ottbeerdiary. Over the course of 2015, I will be trying a new beer every day. Please read the background in the link above, and enjoy reading about the most recently tasted beers below. If you’d like to join the challenge as well, let me know in the comments below, and be sure to check out Grown-up Travel Guide and his #grownupbeerdiary, where Andy Higgs came up with the diary format in use below. Day 305: November 1, 2015
Diary entry:
Celebrated Sunday Morning, and Dia de los Muertos, by sleeping in.
I needed that!
Spent some time in the afternoon exploring some foodie stops in Hong Kong, on the Kowloon side.
We had Dim Sum lunch at Hello Kitty Chinese Cuisine, where we found ourselves totally immersed in the world of Kawaii (cuteness).
Had to follow that up with some Halloween-themed ice cream at Lab Made at the Miramar shopping center, then a quick stop at the Marketplace in the basement of our hotel for some breakfast foods for the coming week.
For dinner, we headed up to Mong Kok, where we hit another crazy ice cream joint, where the ice cream comes covered in popcorn, and then wandered through the Ladies Market for a bit before heading for a Dim Sum dinner.
As we were heading to TAP: The Ale Project for a beer before bed, we stumbled across another craft beer bar that wasn’t on any of the lists I had used for my research, WOFT Craft Beer Bar. The weather was nice, they had some outdoor seating, and local beers available, so we decided to just stop here tonight and try a couple of the beers on offer.
Thundergod (雷公) by Moonzen – American Pale Ale. 5% ABV. Very nice pale ale. Excellent bitterness. Fruity flavors.
Sugarcane Stout by Mak’s Beer – Stout. 5% ABV. Roasty. Coffee flavors. A little sweet. But quite balanced. Very good.
And the beer of the night:
The Beer:
Name: Double Hoppiness IPA
Style: Double / Imperial IPA
Producer: Nine Dragons Brewery
Alcohol content: 6.8%
Bottle size: 0.33 l
Purchased from: WOFT Craft Beer in Mong Kok, Hong Kong
Double Hoppiness IPA by Nine Dragons Brewery. A very nice double IPA. Citrus and tropical aroma. Citrus hoppy bitterness with excellent flavor.
Commercial Description (untappd):
Double Hoppiness IPA is a fierce red-coloured classic India Pale Ale – twice as strong and twice as hoppy, blessed with huge amounts of aroma hops and powerful bitterness that are balanced beautifully by the sweetness and rich mouthfeel of superb floor-malted grains.
