This post is a part of the 2015 New Beer Every Day Beer Diary Challenge, #ottbeerdiary.  Over the course of 2015, I will be trying a new beer every day. Please read the background in the link above, and enjoy reading about the most recently tasted beers below. If you’d like to join the challenge as well, let me know in the comments below, and be sure to check out Grown-up Travel Guide and his #grownupbeerdiary, where Andy Higgs came up with the diary format in use below. You can catch up on all of our posts as part of the challenge under the tag ottbeerdiary.

Day 155: June 4, 2015

Diary entry:

Today was a full day off-site for a workshop on configuration management. This is not an area I’m well versed on, so this was an interesting workshop for me. Especially since I will be spending quite some time on these processes in the coming months. Always good to further broaden my horizons.

Ran back to the office afterwards to clean out the email inbox. No pressing items remaining so I can feel good about taking tomorrow off.

Back home to pack up and be ready for our trip to Paris in the morning.

The Beer:

Elegast Quadrupel by De Naeckte Brouwers

Name: Elegast Quadrupel

Style: Belgian Quad

Producer: De Naeckte Brouwers

Alcohol content: 10.0%

Bottle size: 0.33l

Purchased from: Den Gouwen Aar in Gouda, the Netherlands

Another new small Dutch brewery I haven’t experienced before! This time from Amstelveen, further North in the Netherlands.

The beer poured with a copper color and not much head. The flavor was grainy, like a wheat flavor, a little sweet. You can definitely taste the 10% but not in a bad way.

Commercial Description: Elegast is a copper-colored, heavy Belgian-style abbey beer with full grainy nose and bitter sweet corn and caramel flavor combined with a pleasant alcohol warmth.

There is nothing to mess with our brave ELEGAST. On his black horse this knight is a true folk hero who is not on the rich class. His tough character also exhibits gentle touches and that’s what makes ELEGAST so charming. A quadruppel which is not to be trifled with, but also a good friend.
