This post is a part of the 2015 New Beer Every Day Beer Diary Challenge, #ottbeerdiary. Over the course of 2015, I will be trying a new beer every day. Please read the background in the link above, and enjoy reading about the most recently tasted beers below. Day 46: February 15, 2015
Diary entry:
Wandered around Brussels this morning, but not in any of the parts of town I had ever been before. Previous visits have been in the center and the north of the city near the Expo center, but I had never actually done any exploration of the south-east part of the city, which is the vicinity of the European Parliament.
I saw a few cool new places for future visits, such as Luxembourg Square, St. Boniface’s Square, Parc Leopold, and Place Jourdan. Enjoyed a wander through the Place Jourdan farmer’s market, and finished off with an order of frites from Maison Antoine, on of the most famous French fry shops in Brussels.
Took a long drive home, using some back roads instead of just highway the whole way. Went well, until I kept hitting detours in the Netherlands due to city center street closures for Carnaval festivities. The worst of which, of course, would up being in Boxtel itself, just a few hundred meters from home, where many of the streets were closed for the Carnaval parade.
After a long round-the-town detour to get to the other side of town where I could access home, I did finally manage to arrive, and then head back out for a couple of hours of Carnaval, and an early night’s sleep to finally get some recovery from the past week.
The Beer:
Name: Emelisse 2.5
Style: American Pale Ale
Producer: Bierbrouwerij Emelisse
Alcohol content: 2.5%
Bottle size: 0.33l
Purchased from: Part of the birthday 12-pack
After yesterday’s Belgian beer tour and a brief visit to Carnaval today, tonight I’m grateful this beer, the Emelisse 2.5. A pale ale with only 2.5% ABV. Still possesses a very nice bitterness, with a lot of flowery flavors from the hops. I’m shocked by how much aromatic flavors there are.
