This post is a part of the 2015 New Beer Every Day Beer Diary Challenge, #ottbeerdiary. Over the course of 2015, I will be trying a new beer every day. Please read the background in the link above, and enjoy reading about the most recently tasted beers below. If you’d like to join the challenge as well, let me know in the comments below, and be sure to check out Grown-up Travel Guide and his #grownupbeerdiary, where Andy Higgs came up with the diary format in use below. You can catch up on all of our posts as part of the challenge under the tag ottbeerdiary.
From December 1 through December 24, I’m going to try to use a Christmas Beer for each day of Advent as part of my #ottadvent15 2015 Advent Calendar. Follow along with the tag ottadvent15.
Day 339: December 5, 2015
Diary entry:
Today was another one of those days.
Woke up bright and early, with all the intentions of heading to Germany today for a Christmas market and to pick up a couple of German Christmas beers to mix in with the Belgians.
Instead, I sat on the couch, doing some social media, and vegging on “The Walking Dead” all day. Watched all of Season 2 in one go, and now on to Season 3. Yikes!
Not sure why, just seeing how windy it was, and knowing that tomorrow I’m playing tour guide and likely going to a market…I felt I just deserved a day of rest.
The Beer:
Name: Fantôme de Noel
Style: Winter Warmer
Producer: Brasserie Fantôme
Alcohol content: 10.0%
Bottle size: 0.75 l
Purchased from: Bierparadijs bottle shop in Essen, Belgium
Fantôme de Noel by Brasserie Fantôme. Spicy! Has hints of cinnamon red hot candies. And a nice sourness in the base. An interesting and tasty holiday blend.
Commercial Description (Bottle label):
With Fantôme de Noel, brewer Danny Prignon has created a very dark, and entirely unique holiday seasonal beer. A rich, dark-flavored brew with lots of deep-roasted chocolate malt, but still fairly dry, with a hint of sourness at the core. It is very spicy, with some winter spruce flavor in the bargain.
