This post is a part of the 2015 New Beer Every Day Beer Diary Challenge, #ottbeerdiary. Over the course of 2015, I will be trying a new beer every day. Please read the background in the link above, and enjoy reading about the most recently tasted beers below. If you’d like to join the challenge as well, let me know in the comments below, and be sure to check out Grown-up Travel Guide and his #grownupbeerdiary, where Andy Higgs came up with the diary format in use below. You can catch up on all of our posts as part of the challenge under the tag ottbeerdiary.
Day 326: November 22, 2015
Diary entry:
My original plan for the day was to finish up my blog post catch-up and then run over to Germany for a Christmas market or two. Unfortunately, today is Remembrance Day in Germany, and most of the Christmas markets are closed today.
So unfortunately, no markets today.
Instead, I popped over to Our Lady of Koningshoeven Abbey in Tilburg, where La Trappe Trappist beers are brewed, and picked up a bottle of their La Trappe Quadrupel Oak Aged Batch #22. I’m looking forward to trying this one soon!
On the way home, I made a quick detour into Oirschot to visit a new brewery that opened recently, Brouwerij van de Oirsprong. They had five beers available on tap, and I of course decided to give them all a taste. I must say, I was rather impressed!
I tried their Weizen, Blonde, Dubbel, and their Tripel, all of which were very solid examples of their styles. Especially the Weizen! And the fifth beer was the beer of the day…
The Beer:
Name: Gerardus Amber
Style: Amber Ale
Producer: Brouwerij van de Oirsprong
Alcohol content: 5.5%
Bottle size: 0.18 l draft
Purchased from: Brouwerij van de Oirsprong in Oirschot, Netherlands
Gerardus Amber by Brouwerij van de Oirsprong. Pretty good. Amber color. Slight bitterness. Not too sweet. Very drinkable. Part of a tasting flight at the brewery, which only recently opened in Oirschot.
