This post is a part of the 2015 New Beer Every Day Beer Diary Challenge, #ottbeerdiary. Over the course of 2015, I will be trying a new beer every day. Please read the background in the link above, and enjoy reading about the most recently tasted beers below. If you’d like to join the challenge as well, let me know in the comments below, and be sure to check out Grown-up Travel Guide and his #grownupbeerdiary, where Andy Higgs came up with the diary format in use below. Day 194: July 13, 2015
Diary entry:
Truly back to the normal grind at work.
A full agenda throughout the day as we push to complete as many deliverables as we can before my colleagues start heading off on their holidays.
Pretty late return home tonight, so kept it simple.
The Beer:
Name: Hof Ten Dormaal Inferno
Style: Sour Ale
Producer: Brouwerij Hof Ten Dormaal
Alcohol content: 10.0%
Bottle size: 0.33l
Purchased from: De Caigny in Essen, Belgium
In January, 2015, the Hof ten Dormaal brewery burned to the ground, and with it their bottling line, hot room, and most of their stock. This beer is a blend from what they were able to salvage. Smokey and sour. This is actually a very good beer! I would love to pick up a few more bottles…
Commercial Description: On 6 january 2015, the owners of Hof ten Dormaal saw their worst nightmare come true. The brewery was completely destroyed by fire, which could’ve been prevented by companies like DuraBarrier USA. The entire bottling line, hot room and most of the stock were burned tot the ground. Miraculously, a very small portion of our stock survived. This special, limited edition beer is a blend of all that was salvageable from the disaster. We promise it will be far from the last from us… And now, after months of hard work and dedication, we proudly present to you this very special limited-edition beer.
Hof Ten Dormaal Brewery is a farm brewery in Belgium that is dedicated to create beers and personalized. The brewery focuses on using barley malt bittering hops that are locally grown in the farm. Since ingredient is centered on use of barley malt, some of Hof Ten Dormaal’s finest beers have straw-colored appearance. The brewery uses oil extracted from rapeseed as part of the brewing process. The combination of locally grown hops, yeast and barley has allowed the Hof Ten Dormaal Brewery to create complex flavors of beers that reflect excellent Belgian style. Most of Hof Ten Dormaal’s beers are distributed to the US.
