This post is a part of the 2015 New Beer Every Day Beer Diary Challenge, #ottbeerdiary. Over the course of 2015, I will be trying a new beer every day. Please read the background in the link above, and enjoy reading about the most recently tasted beers below. If you’d like to join the challenge as well, let me know in the comments below, and be sure to check out Grown-up Travel Guide and his #grownupbeerdiary, where Andy Higgs came up with the diary format in use below. You can catch up on all of our posts as part of the challenge under the tag ottbeerdiary.
Day 127: May 7, 2015
Diary entry:
Ah, at last. A vacation day!
Last night we checked into Hotel Planamar in Platja d’Aro, Spain. And today we did blessed nothing.
Sat in the hotel a little.
Sat in a cafe along the beach for a while for a long lunch.
Walked along the beach to look at the sand sculptures under construction.
Took a nap.
Relaxed.
We found a Rocambolesc gelateria in town, so decided to continue our Can Roca-themed culinary adventure with a spot of Jordi Roca’s ice cream creations. Followed by (yes, followed by, not following) a tapas dinner on the beach at Restaurant La Calma Chillout.
The Beer:
Name: Imperial IPA
Style: Imperial IPA
Producer: Cervezas La Cibeles
Alcohol content: 7.0%
Bottle size: 0.33l
Purchased from: Cervezas La Cibeles booth at Birrasana 2015 in Blanes, Spain
Most of our food / drink stops of the day were used for sangria and local wines, so had to dip into the road-trip stash (addition from the Birrasana beer festival) for tonight’s beer.
Cervezas La Cibeles is the first craft brewery to open in Madrid, having opened back in 2009. Their Imperial IPA comes in at 70 IBU’s, but I was a bit underwhelemed by the bitterness I tasted. I felt that this beer definitely had a decent flavor for a beer. I just prefer a more bitter finish personally.
Commercial Description:
70 IBUS (bitterness units) and more than 5 kilos of aromatic hops, can be defined as the queen of spices in La Cibeles. When tasting, leaves behind a strong bitter taste that remains wrapped by notes of grapes and white wine. Quite a challenge for new in these conflicts.
