This post is a part of the 2015 New Beer Every Day Beer Diary Challenge, #ottbeerdiary. Over the course of 2015, I will be trying a new beer every day. Please read the background in the link above, and enjoy reading about the most recently tasted beers below. If you’d like to join the challenge as well, let me know in the comments below, and be sure to check out Grown-up Travel Guide and his #grownupbeerdiary, where Andy Higgs came up with the diary format in use below. You can catch up on all of our posts as part of the challenge under the tag ottbeerdiary.
Day 123: May 3, 2015
Diary entry:
After the stress of the past few days, today was a chance to sleep in and relax.
One last day in Lloret de Mar before leaving on a familiarization (Fam) trip around the La Selva region of Costa Brava.
But of course, I can’t spend the whole day in Lloret.
Not when there’s a beer festival in the next town down the coast.
It just so happened that the Birrasana beer festival was taking place in Blanes at the same time as our travel bloggers conference in Lloret.
I had first gotten word of this coincidence back in November when we were in London for World Travel Market. And after six months of build-up, talking with the organizer of Birrasana, Pep Andreu of Cervesa Marina , both on Facebook and at the opening party for TBEX on Thursday night, and a question already Sunday morning on the way back from breakfast from Jaume from Costa Brava Pirineu de Girona as to why I wasn’t at the festival, there was no way I was missing it!
I sent out word to fellow bloggers if anyone was interested in joining, and got one taker (many of the other interested bloggers were already heading over on an official TBEX excursion that left earlier to visit the botanical gardens as well), and got to the festival around 1:00PM.
The festival was scheduled to end at 3:00PM, so had a few hours to sample some beers. Not too many, as I had to drive back to Lloret afterwards. Little did I know that I would have a few extra passengers along for the ride, as a group of the bloggers from the official tour wanted to stay longer than their 3:00PM bus departure, and some of the more local vendors wound up pouring until after 4:00PM!
And of course, dinner would up being a return tapas visit to Bodega Sa Xarxa, a fitting end to a beer-filled day!
The Beer:
Name: Inalàmbic
Style: Sour Ale
Producer: Segarreta
Alcohol content: ???%
Bottle size: 0.15l from the tap
Purchased from: Birrasana Beer Festival
One of my favorite beers from the Birrasana Beer Festival was Inalàmbic by Segarreta of Santa Coloma de Queralt, near Barcelona. A very nice sour. Tart, but not overly acidic. I wasn’t necessarily expecting such a well balanced sour ale from here in Spain. A pleasant surprise.

When we were in Barcelona last year (for a conference combined with our 9 year wedding anniversary) we were impressed by some of the Spanish craft beers we tried. They’ve really elevated their beer game down there.
I’m sorry I missed you all at TBEX this go round. Enjoy the rest of your travels around beautiful Espana! Wish we could have made it.
