This post is a part of the 2015 New Beer Every Day Beer Diary Challenge, #ottbeerdiary. Over the course of 2015, I will be trying a new beer every day. Please read the background in the link above, and enjoy reading about the most recently tasted beers below. If you’d like to join the challenge as well, let me know in the comments below, and be sure to check out Grown-up Travel Guide and his #grownupbeerdiary, where Andy Higgs came up with the diary format in use below. Day 54: February 23, 2015
Diary entry:
Last night was a horrible night’s sleep. No clue why, but I was still lying in bed trying to fall asleep as 2AM rolled around. And of course, that doesn’t translate to a later wake-up call, as I had an 8AM appointment to have the windshield of my car replaced due to a big crack that I’d been ignoring since December, but decided to have fixed before leaving the car parked at the airport for two weeks. Who knew that would take over 90 minutes!
Had a few minutes to kill before my 10AM workshop once I did make it into the office, so decided to take a peek at my upcoming flight reservation on Delta to see if somehow a seat in Economy Comfort had opened up for my first flight to Seattle on Wednesday. Ka-Ching! An aisle seat had come available! Snagged that puppy. But wait…what’s this. I’ve also already been upgraded from Seattle to Phoenix and Phoenix to Los Angeles! Double sweet!
Now, I wonder. Maybe I can also solve part of the issue of how to get the beer I need pick up in Orange County into storage, since there’s no way I can bring it all back to the Netherlands with me. Wait! I’m booked on an upgradeable fare on the red-eye from Los Angeles to New York! I wonder. Yup! One phone call and 12.5k miles later, I’m confirmed in Business Class on the redeye from LAX to JFK, which comes with three 70-pound checked bags! That’ll be more than enough to get enough back to CT with me to either put into my storage unit, or leave with someone on the East Coast.
Oh yeah…and also had a few good workshops at work, and a productive session at the gym. Tomorrow it’s time to pack…
The Beer:
Name: Koud Vuur
Style: Smoked Porter
Producer: Bax Bier
Alcohol content: 6.2%
Bottle size: 0.33l
Purchased from: Part of the birthday 12-pack I received back in December
One of the last beers from my birthday 12-pack. Baxbier’s Smoked Porter, Koud Vuur. The smokiness comes from smoked and roasted malts. But not a lot of sweetness under the smoke, so very enjoyable.
