This post is a part of the 2015 New Beer Every Day Beer Diary Challenge, #ottbeerdiary. Over the course of 2015, I will be trying a new beer every day. Please read the background in the link above, and enjoy reading about the most recently tasted beers below. Day 221: August 9, 2015
Diary entry:
Spent most of the day again sitting at home relaxing. I’m pretty tired a lot these weekends, so it’s good to have a chance to unwind. Making use of the steam shower at home, and the air conditioning.
Ran out to La Trappe’s brewery later in the day to grab a bottle of the Batch 20 Quad, and stopped in Oisterwijk for a beer or two at ‘t Gelagh, where I haven’t been in a while. Tried two beers there:
Gageleer by De Proefbrouwerij (7.5% Herbed / Spiced Beer) – Pretty good, a decent beer, with good flavor and aroma.
De Hopman 1 by De Hopmannen (8.5% Über Hopfen Weisse in collaboration with Oldskool Brewery) – Recommended to me by the brewer, who saw me checking in on Untappd, lamenting on how difficult it was to find new beers, and noticing I was at a bar that carries his beer. Loved the aroma. Citrus and hops. Flavor is more bitter focused. Some fruit. Very good. Especially on the patio.
The Beer:
Name: Kriek Marriage Parfait (2013)
Style: Kriek Lambic
Producer: Brouwerij Boon
Alcohol content: 8.0%
Bottle size: 0.375l
Purchased from: De Caigny in Essen, Belgium
Kriek Marriage Parfait (2013) by Brouwerij Boon. Deep ruby color. Slight medicinal smell. Balanced sour and fruit, a little subdued. Neither overpowers.
Commercial Description:
Kriek Boon Mariage Parfait consists of 1 year-old heavy lambic flavored with overripe cherries, 400 grams per liter. Longer aging in small oak barrels gives it its special flavour. The lambic is bottled and stored in an air-conditioned room for six months of secondary fermentation. Kriek Mariage Parfait has an alcohol volume of 8%. It keeps for a minimum 20 years, and is ready to drink after about 2 years in the bottle. This is perfection in kriek beers. Try it and admit that it surpasses the best wine.
