This post is a part of the 2015 New Beer Every Day Beer Diary Challenge, #ottbeerdiary. Over the course of 2015, I will be trying a new beer every day. Please read the background in the link above, and enjoy reading about the most recently tasted beers below. Day 137: May 17, 2015
Diary entry:
The final day of our road trip!
Alas, tomorrow I need to return to work.
A relatively early wake-up, hoping to see a little of Amiens before heading home.
We didn’t know anything about the town before deciding to spend the night, but doing some research, we found out this is the city where Jules Verne lived, did his writing, and is even where he died and was buried. So we decided to do some Jules Verne tourism today.
But first, a little walk about the center, where we stumbled across a lovely Fete du Pain (Festival of Bread), which, given that we opted not to pay for the hotel breakfast this morning, turned out perfectly!
A briochette and some baguette later, we went to explore the Amiens Cathedral, one of the biggest churches in the world! I was quite impressed!
Lunch along the Somme River, then a rush back to the hotel for our late check-out.
Jules Verne tourism time in Amiens after lunch, with a visit to his gravesite, his home, and the Cirque Jules Verne, and even a drive past the Jules Verne University.
Then we joined the caravan of caravans for the crawl home to the Netherlands.
Remind me next time not to try to drive home on a holiday weekend Sunday!
The Beer:
Name: La Croix des Greves Ambrée
Style: Amber Beer
Producer: Brasserie de la Baie
Alcohol content: 5.0%
Bottle size: 0.33l
Purchased from: Biscuiterie de la Baie du Mont Saint-Michel
Picked this one up at the local products biscuit shot we visited just outside Mont Saint Michel.
A little bitter. A little bit of malty sweetness, but not overpowering. A decent beer. On pouring, the beer was definitly very heavily carbonated, where all I tasted was the bubbles. After letting it sit for a little, the flavor started to become much more evident.
Commercial Description:
La Croix des Greves Amber , by its gently roasted malts and aromatic hops is the ideal companion at table.
It is also a quintessential aperitif beer, with its light taste oscillating between English and caramel candy.
