This post is a part of the 2015 New Beer Every Day Beer Diary Challenge, #ottbeerdiary. Over the course of 2015, I will be trying a new beer every day. Please read the background in the link above, and enjoy reading about the most recently tasted beers below. If you’d like to join the challenge as well, let me know in the comments below, and be sure to check out Grown-up Travel Guide and his #grownupbeerdiary, where Andy Higgs came up with the diary format in use below. Day 116: April 26, 2015
Diary entry:
Our road trip to TBEX in Costa Brava has begun!
We woke up at 5:30 this morning, and finished packing and getting ourselves ready, and we were out the door and on the road by 8AM!
We were kind of on a mission today, our first destination which we had to pay a visit to was the vineyard Romanée-Conti in Vose-Romanée, France. This is, perhaps, the most famous vineyard in the world, and produces the grapes for the most expensive wine, the Domaine de la Romanée-conti, Romanée-conti. This vineyard is so famous, it’s owners were recently subject to a multi-million-dollar extortion scheme where someone was threatening to poison the vineyard if the owners didn’t pay up!
I must say, driving through the vineyards of Burgundy was an exhilarating pleasure, as I am such a fan of their wines. As we wound our way through villages whose names I recognize from the wine bottles I drool over on wine lists — Gevrey-Chambartin, Morey-Saint-Denis, Vosnee-Romanée, and Nuits-Saint-Georges — I felt like a little kid walking through a candy store. It was too bad (or a good thing) it was Sunday and most places were closed.
We spent our first night in Beaune, the capital of the Burgundy wine region, and managed to get a table at Restaurant Le Benaton, a one-Michelin-star restaurant nearby our hotel. Great food, and a very nice wine from Nuits-Saint-Georges.
Next stop, on to Lloret de Mar in Costa Brava, Spain!
The Beer:
Name: La Mandubienne Biere Blonde
Style: Blonde Lager
Producer: Brasserie des Trois Fontaines
Alcohol content: 6.5%
Bottle size: 0.33l
Purchased from: La Trente Trois in Beaune, France
Brasserie des Trois Fontaines, but not 3 Fonteinen. This “three fountains” is from Bretenière, France, in Côte d’Or. Relatively local to here in Beaune, in the heart of Burgundy.
A cloudy light brown in color, this blonde is a little on the sweeter side. But some hidden bitterness underneath.
Traditionally-made blonde beer, unfiltered and bottle-conditioned. La Mandubienne is brewed with regional beer malts (Brazey en Plaine) and French aromatic hops.
