Day 263: September 20, 2015
Diary entry:
I’ll admit it. I had a little difficulty waking up this morning after last night’s festivities. But managed to get through the day OK. 🙂
After breakfast and checking out of my hotel, I wandered car-free Brussels for a little while, with the original intention of stopping by En Stoemelings brewery which Google said was open today. Turns out not to be the case, though. Oh well, strike two! This is the second time I tried to visit when indicators said they should be open, but they weren’t. Next time!
A very quiet drive home, seems a lot of cities are doing car-free events today, or end-of-summer outdoor events. And the weather was perfect for them!
I made a brief stop by La Trappe to see if their Batch 21 was available yet, but looks like that will be next weekend.
So back home to Boxtel, and then into town for a bit of the Bockesprongen Boxtel Outside event going on in town today, including some good live music in the pubs and squares around town.
A shame to see summer end 🙁
The Beer:
Name: Martin’s IPA
Style: Belgian IPA
Producer: Brewery John Martin
Alcohol content: 6.9%
Bottle size: 0.33l
Purchased from: Proeverij ‘t Goei Leven in Boxtel, the Netherlands
Martin’s IPA by Brewery John Martin. Some bitterness, but not much. A little sweet. A little fruity. Not my favorite IPA, but it was decent enough as it sat in the glass a while.
Commercial Description
Martin’s IPA (Indian Pale Ale) is born out of pure passion for the brewing tradition and the pursuit of quality. A unique beer with a pronounced hopflavour and a cheerful sparkle. Hopflowers are added during fermentation : the secret of its exquisite bouquet. Bottle refermented, discover and enjoy this lively beer, full of tradition and know-how of 4 generations of the Martin family.
Conservation : 3 years
This beer shows the real succulence of a real British IPA. Its wise and peppery approach to the nose liberates immediately the tint of a clever hopped beer. It unchains a strong bitterness from its entry, going on the tongue and in the whole mouth. At no moment it is aggressive, but still seriously confirms, showing more indulgence in the conclusion, but not admitting any weakness as to its profound character and without detour.
