Day 84: March 25, 2015
Diary entry:
A quiet morning, gave me a chance to catch up from the busy Tuesday. The afternoon suddenly loomed with some new assignments with very short deadlines, so wound up staying a bit later than expected finishing up these new assignments before getting to head over to the Schneider Weisse tasting event at Van Moll in Eindhoven.
I’m glad I did make it though. Some wonderful beers were available, and the new Tap X Mathilda Soleil made it’s Netherlands Debut at the event. This beer should be available on taps this summer, and is definitely one worth keeping an eye out for! Very enjoyable.
However, as good as the Mathilda Soleil was, I couldn’t give it the beer of the night tag, which instead went to another Schneider Weisse beer that was shared with me by Dennis Kort of Oldskool Brewery, who organized the tasting…
The Beer:
Name: Mein Eisbock Barrique (2014)
Style: Eisbock

Sometimes, it’s not the biggest pours that make the biggest impressions. The Schneider Weisse Mein Eisbock Barrique 2014. Wow! I mean, really. Holy cow! This is a great beer.
Commercial Description: Schneider Aventinus Eisbock matured for 15 months in Pinot Noir Barrels. In 2010 Hans-Peter Drexler started a new project : maturing some of his finest beers in wine barrels. He enjoyed the expertise of brewmaster Jérôme de Rebetez from Brasserie des Franches Montagnes in Switzerland who grew up in a wine producing family. Thus, they created delicious new beer aromes. Mein Eisbock Barrique welcomes you with an intense raspberry, cherry and vanilla aroma. A very rich and harmonious taste of chocolate, vanilla and berries will explode in your mouth leaving a lasting and pleasant after-taste reminding you of good red wine. This beer is recommended with chocolate and red fruit dessert or a blue cheese. however, as it is so powerful that it can easily be enjoyed by its own.
