This post is a part of the 2015 New Beer Every Day Beer Diary Challenge, #ottbeerdiary. Over the course of 2015, I will be trying a new beer every day. Please read the background in the link above, and enjoy reading about the most recently tasted beers below. Day 228: August 16, 2015
Diary entry:
While yesterday was my first day to really explore Rotterdam, today I actually explored Breda for the first time, too.
I had been to Breda a number of times, for the Beer Reclame Museum and for the Brewda Festival last year, but never for the actual city center!
Today I had an invitation from the guys at Brouwerij Bliksem to attend the B-Fest: Beers, Burgers, and Beards at Belcrum Beach in Breda, the Netherlands. How could I pass that up?
I took the train in a little early and wandered into town first to see the city center and have a beer or two at the local beer bars in town. I stopped at Cafe Zeezicht today, though there are a few others I’ll want to go back and try on another visit, perhaps surrounding this year’s Brewda festival on September 5.
I had a pair of IPA’s at Zeezicht — Axe Edge by Buxton Brewery and First Frontier IPA by To Øl — before heading up to the B-Fest, where Brouwerij Bliksem and Brouwerij Frontaal (the sponsors of Brewda) were both pouring. New beers here included:
Kermis in de Ale by Brouwerij Bliksem – Nice black ipa. Decent bitterness, with some malty character as well. Especially with the aroma. Very dark. 7.4 Abv in actuality.
Tankard by Brouwerij Frontaal – Excellent for a 3.9% session IPA. Not anywhere near as watery as many. Nice bitterness and grapefruit flavor.
And today’s beer of the day…
The Beer:
Name: North
Style: Stout
Producer: Brouwerij Frontaal
Alcohol content: 8.1%
Bottle size: 0.2l Draft
Purchased from: B-Fest. Beers, Burgers, and Beards at Belcrum Beach, Breda, the Netherlands.
North by Brouwerij Frontaal. Great aroma of dark roasted coffee and chocolate. Flavor is very tasty. A fine offering at the B-Fest at Belcrum Beach in Breda.
