Brilliant Brett, thanks so much for that. I can't wait. I couldn't eat last night when I arrived (long story) so I'm gagging to get out there today after I finish up some work! Thanks again, much appreciated.

Hi Victoria. Perhaps try Kao Chi for some decent local food in a nice ambience. Similar to Din Tai Fung, but with some additional tasty choices, and more of a dining room feel. Be sure to try the Crispy Pork Buns mentioned above in the post. Shin-Yeh is more Taiwanese vs. Shanghainese. There's on on top of Taipei 101, otherwise a couple others around the city, with the original being up near the Imperial Hotel off Linsen Rd on Shuangcheng Rd. Also had a couple of work dinners at Rong Rong Yun restaurant on Xinyi Rd. which were always pretty good.

For street food, definitely I'd suggest only trying the Shilin Night Market on a weeknight. Friday nights especially are a bit of a mob scene. Gongguan Night market near NTU is nice to visit on the weekend, especially for the bubble tea. Some great dumplings and pork-rib soup in the Raohe Night Market, For truly local night market food, perhaps try the Ningxia night market.

And of course, don't miss trying the beef noddle soup. Our favorite place was in an alley heading north slight west of the northwest corner of the Zhongxiao-Fuxing intersection.

Brett that would be awesome if you could share a couple of recommendations. We'll obviously go to Din Tai Fung but I'd love a recommendation for a really nice restaurant to visit on Saturday night. Somewhere to enjoy local food in nice ambience. Equally, your best recommendation for street food would be fabulous. I'm really excited about the trip and my only concern is just how many meals a day I'll be able to eat ;)

I have to admit, after watching them make them enough and tasting more than our fair share of Din Tai Fung dumplings, Erin's dumplings really stood up well with them! No, not as pretty perhaps, but just as tasty...though having our own private DTF chef would have definitely been quicker to make (and much quicker to clean up the kitchen afterwards!)

I'm with you, I could eat dumplings every day! When I lived in Shanghai, there was a Din Tai Fung branch nearby and I went there all the time. If I had enough money, I'd hire one of their dumpling makers to be my private chef!
