Day 187: July 6, 2015
Diary entry:
Up bright and early, around 5AM, to walk with my sisters and niece to the tube station so they could head over to Stanstead for their flight to Porto where they are finishing off there summer travels which included Italy and Prague before London and Porto.
My flight isn’t until 5PM, so a few hours to kill before I have to head to Heathrow.
So I decided to meet Dylan, The Traveling Editor, for a beer and some Dim Sum in Bayswater. Always good to catch up with friends in cities around the world.
Got to spend a couple hours in the Sky Team lounge at Heathrow, and I must say, I’m rather impressed. A very nice lounge, with excellent food and drink selections, and plenty of space, and outlets. I could get used to LHR!
The Beer:
Name: Oddbins No.5
Style: Saison
Producer: Rocky Head Brewery
Alcohol content: 4.8%
Bottle size: 0.33l
Purchased from: McColls’s near Notting Hill Gate, Kensington, London
Interesting saison. Sour citrus, without the hoppy bitterness of a Citra IPA. Lovely flavor.
Commercial Description:
Oddbins No. 5 is – as you might deduce – our fifth collaboration beer and was made by Rocky Head Brewery helped by Oddbins staff in Southfields, South London. It was made with the clearest, most lovely of briefs; to make the ultimate summer beer. For Brewer Steve Daniel, a former Buyer for Oddbins and drinks industry legend, this meant a Saison, which is a refreshing, farmhouse style beer traditionally made in Belgium. Steve has added citrus zest and spice to bring a modern twist and extra complexity to this traditional style.
A member of the London Brewers’ Alliance, Rocky Head has been brewing craft beer with character in Wandsworth, London since 2011.
