This post is a part of the 2015 New Beer Every Day Beer Diary Challenge, #ottbeerdiary. Over the course of 2015, I will be trying a new beer every day. Please read the background in the link above, and enjoy reading about the most recently tasted beers below. If you’d like to join the challenge as well, let me know in the comments below, and be sure to check out Grown-up Travel Guide and his #grownupbeerdiary, where Andy Higgs came up with the diary format in use below. Day 59: February 28, 2015
Diary entry:
The original plan for Saturday was to run up to Orange County to pick up the last of my 2014 allocations from The Bruery in Placencia, and then visit with Erin’s parents fora while, and pick up some mail and such. However, Erin’s father had to work, so I decided to postpone that part of the trip to Sunday, and had a lazy beer-tasting day instead.
Ran a few errands in the morning, and then ran up to Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens in Escondido for the afternoon. They continue to have some great beers to sample. After that, an invite to dinner and cards with some friends, and a final stop at the Irish pub near the hotel for a night cap…
The Beer:
Name: Pale Ale 394
Style: American Pale Ale
Producer: AleSmith Brewing Company
Alcohol content: 6.0%
Bottle size: 16oz. Draft
Purchased from: Conway’s Irish Pub, San Diego
Tonight’s beer of the night is Denogginizer by Drake’s Brewing Company that operates out of an old Caterpillar plant in San Leandro, Ca. A decent double IPA from a brewery I’ve never tried before. A little less carbonated than most.
Commercial Description: AleSmith dialed in the recipe resulting in an extremely drinkable 6% ABV Pale Ale with light bitterness and accentuated hoppiness designed to fill the gap between AleSmith X Extra Pale Ale and AleSmith IPA. This San Diego Pale Ale will showcase abundant piney and citrusy hop aroma and flavor from an intense dry-hopping schedule. A balanced malt profile will round out these hoppy flavors with a biscuity finish to enhance drinkability throughout the innings.
The name “394” (.394) references the highest single-season batting average Gwynn set back in 1994. Ready to be released at the June 6th Padres Beerfest, San Diego Pale Ale 394 will reflect the commitment to excellence shared by the legendary Tony Gwynn and the AleSmith team.
