This post is a part of the 2015 New Beer Every Day Beer Diary Challenge, #ottbeerdiary. Over the course of 2015, I will be trying a new beer every day. Please read the background in the link above, and enjoy reading about the most recently tasted beers below. Day 132: May 12, 2015
Diary entry:
Luckily the fog lifted a bit this morning, allowing us to see some stunning views across the bay to San Sebastian.
We took it easy this morning, as we had a 1:30 PM lunch reservation at Arzak, the #8 restaurant in the world! This reservation was only secured a few days earlier, through Daniel, our Chef friend in Taiwan who used to work at the restaurant, and has done some collaborations with Xabi, the creative director at Arzak who we met in Taiwan as well. It was quite fun to arrive and see that our table was booked under Xabi’s name!
Though a little nerve racking first since we had thought it was under Erin’s. But all’s well that ends well. A great lunch! Supurb food. A extremely inexpensive wine pairings!
Following lunch, a few hours drive up to Bordeaux, with a detour through Sauternes to see Château d’Yquem before checking in to our hotel, the Ibis Styles Bordeaux Meriadeck.
The Beer:
Name: Pelforth Brune
Style: Belgian Brown Ale
Producer: Heineken (France)
Alcohol content: 6.5%
Bottle size: 0.33l
Purchased from: Ibis Styles Bordeaux Meriadeck
Labeled as a double malt, so I feared a sweet mess. Turned out to be rather good, with a balanced bitterness.
Commercial Description:
Red-brown beer with a soft, sweet taste and fruit and chocolate flavors.
