This post is a part of the 2015 New Beer Every Day Beer Diary Challenge, #ottbeerdiary. Over the course of 2015, I will be trying a new beer every day. Please read the background in the link above, and enjoy reading about the most recently tasted beers below. If you’d like to join the challenge as well, let me know in the comments below, and be sure to check out Grown-up Travel Guide and his #grownupbeerdiary, where Andy Higgs came up with the diary format in use below. Day 330: November 26, 2015
Diary entry:
One downside to living in Europe is that you don’t get off for all of the American holidays that you are used to, which often means less chances for visiting with your family.
Thanksgiving is the holiday each year where I would normally get together with all of my aunts, uncles, and cousins, however my work schedule has not always allowed me to take off for this week. It’s actually been three years since I managed to be home in Connecticut for Thanksgiving, though I did get to spend Thanksgiving with Erin’s parents two years ago, which was nice.
Instead, I had a full day of work.
Luckily, there are enough Americans at my company in the same boat that we have our own traditions, and our Thanksgiving tradition is that De Bengel, where we often hold our Rib Night meet-ups, procures and prepares a couple of turkeys and hams, and provides us a private room for our Thanksgiving feast. So while we’re not all at home with our families, at least we can enjoy our holiday with friends.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Not sure if I’ll get any pumpkin pie, so having a pumpkin beer! Pumking Imperial Rum Barrel Aged by Southern Tier Brewing Company. This is from last year, but saved specifically for tonight! Brewed with pumpkins, two types of malts, and two types of hops. A little sweet, but flavorful. Even a little buttered popcorn aroma and flavor. Quite a nice flavor / spice mix. And a nice underlying Hoppiness too.
Commercial Description (Untappd):
Imagine Pumking aged in 30 year old Spanish rum barrels. Yo ho ho! Time to fly the Jolly Roger. The ‘King has hit the seas in this limited release. Originally intended to be named “Rumking”, but the name was rejected by the US Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB).
