This post is a part of the 2015 New Beer Every Day Beer Diary Challenge, #ottbeerdiary. Over the course of 2015, I will be trying a new beer every day. Please read the background in the link above, and enjoy reading about the most recently tasted beers below. Day 94: April 4, 2015
Diary entry:
Very lazy Saturday morning. Just a bit of relaxing on the couch while waiting to head to Cologne in the afternoon. Decided to catch up on a couple blog posts, and that was about it.
Good day in Cologne though. Beautiful weather, and explored a few new places outside the main city center.
Instead of the normal food spots like Fruh, we took a walk out of the center to a different brauhaus south of town, the Weissbräu zu Köln. They had a few decent beers, a Kolsch (Weissbrau Wiess), a Hefeweizen, and a Schwartzbier. The Hefe was my favorite of the three. The place was very quiet at the hour, around 4 PM. Though I imagine it gets much busier in the evenings and when the beer garden is open.
On the way to the restaurant, we happened past the Reissdorf Brauhaus, and paid a stop into there on the way back to the hotel. The rest of the night was normal stops in the Altstadt for a mix of Kolsch, music, and just general good times.
The Beer:
Name: Reissdorf Kölsch
Style: Kolsch
Producer: Privat-Brauerei Heinrich Reissdorf
Alcohol content: 4.8%
Bottle size: 0.2 l Draft
Purchased from: Reissdorf Brauhaus
Reissdorf Brauhaus is a small Brauhaus outside the city center. Beers are cheaper here than in the Altstadt, less than €7 for the 6 beers we tried there (two each). And the crowd was a great group of locals who had been watching the football match. A very fun place that I’d definitely go back to.
The beer itself was a nice Kolsch. Very crisp and drinkable. Better than a number of the other Kolsch that I’ve tried in the city. A little bitterness, not at all watery.
