This post is a part of the 2015 New Beer Every Day Beer Diary Challenge, #ottbeerdiary. Over the course of 2015, I will be trying a new beer every day. Please read the background in the link above, and enjoy reading about the most recently tasted beers below. If you’d like to join the challenge as well, let me know in the comments below, and be sure to check out Grown-up Travel Guide and his #grownupbeerdiary, where Andy Higgs came up with the diary format in use below. Day 145: May 25, 2015
Diary entry:
Day three of the three-day-weekend.
Last day to decompress after those three weeks of constant travel.
It was a nice break, and good to have a few days off, since the three-week vacation was not as relaxing as one would hope from a holiday.
After today, I’m ready to get back to work tomorrow.
It feels good!
The Beer:
Name: Rotbier
Style: American Amber / Red Lager
Producer: Ratsherrn Brauerei
Alcohol content: 5.2%
Bottle size: 0.5l
Purchased from: EDEKA in Kleve, Germany
Sweet but not sickeningly sweet, and a little bitter. This would have probably been much better with food.
Commercial Description (from the Ratsherrn web page):
Hints of malt and caramel in a bottom-fermented Hamburg speciality beer.
TASTING NOTES
A select, special malt mixture and “Saphir” aromatic hops lend our Rotbier a harmonious, well-tempered overall impression. Malty aroma with a hint of caramel.
FOOD PAIRING
This Hamburg specialty beer, with its hints of malt and caramel, is delicious with pepper steak, Carpaccio, poultry as well as grilled fish. It tastes just as delicious with semi-hard cheese. For dessert, we suggest sweet caramel puddings.
