This post is a part of the 2015 New Beer Every Day Beer Diary Challenge, #ottbeerdiary. Over the course of 2015, I will be trying a new beer every day. Please read the background in the link above, and enjoy reading about the most recently tasted beers below. If you’d like to join the challenge as well, let me know in the comments below, and be sure to check out Grown-up Travel Guide and his #grownupbeerdiary, where Andy Higgs came up with the diary format in use below. Day 17: January 17, 2015
Diary entry:
Today was a fun day playing tour guide in Amsterdam for an old friend from TravBuddy, Julie P.
A few obligatory stops; Anne Frank House and Van Gogh Museum.
Also a few beer stops, including Gollem Proeflokaal, and dinner at BAR-becue Castell, but that was accompanied by a glass of red wine.
The Beer:
Name: Rubberen Robbie
Style: Smoked Porter
Producer: Brouwerij de Prael / Oedipus Brewing
Alcohol content: 6.8%
Bottle size: Draft 0.25l
Purchased from: Proeflokaal de Prael.
Actually a totally unplanned stop. Walking back to the station while playing tour guide, and just as a bathroom break was requested, there they were, like an oasis in the desert. This beer is a collaboration brew between De Prael and Oedipus Brewing. A Smoked Porter, with quite some bitterness. Was from the tap, and not much smoke flavor at first, but it did increase as it warmed up in the glass.
