Day 118: April 28, 2015
Diary entry:
Beautiful morning in Lloret de Mar. Almost seemed a shame to leave the hotel, but we had a mission for the day…Andorra!
After a very nice breakfast in the Evenia Olympic Resort, the conference hotel for #TBEX Costa Brava 2015, we headed off on a three-hour road trip through the Pyrenees to Andorra, through stunning Catalan landscapes and beautiful mountain views.
Once we made it to Andorra, our first mission was to see if we could find some local wine from Andorra. We were armed with the names of four local wineries, and managed to make it to the first of these wineries, but unfortunately, it seems the wineries are not yet open for visitors at least for the season, so we had to settle for the views from the winery’s parking lot, which was worth it in itself.
We then explored Andorra-la-Vella for a while, looking for a place to eat, but unfortunately, all of the restaurants closed sometime between 3PM-4PM and don’t reopen until 8PM!
The Beer:
Name: Sant Corneli D’ Ordino
Style: Indian Pale Ale
Producer: Cervesa Alpha
Alcohol content: 6.4%
Bottle size: 0.33l
Purchased from: La Birreria in Andorra-la-Vella, Adorra
After two days of 8+ hour drives, today was a relaxing 3 hour drive to Andorra. And then another 3 back again. What am I doing to myself! But one benefit of this is this beauty, the Sant Corneli D’ Ordino IPA from Cervesa Alpha of Andorra. Rated the #1 beer from Andorra. A nice hoppy bitterness, with herbal undertones.
Commercial Decription: Sant Corneli D’ Ordino is an Indian Pale Ale beer, slightly bitter hops with the presence of the touch of the sweet malts that give it a special flavor. The production process is practically manual, with essential machining. Cortinada water from Andorra, malt, hops and yeast are the ingredients that make this specialty beer unique and much appreciated.
Very happy to have found this Andorra Beer at La Birreria in Andorra La Vella. Which I have to say, was no small feat. We checked at multiple shops in Andorra, and it seemed that no one was carrying any products from Andorra! Every shop was packed with duty-free products from Spain, France, and the rest of the world, but finding the local products was definitely a chore! We did a lot of searching for where to find Andorra beer, and La Birreria was one of the only places we could find other than heading over to the brewery itself.
