This post is a part of the 2015 New Beer Every Day Beer Diary Challenge, #ottbeerdiary. Over the course of 2015, I will be trying a new beer every day. Please read the background in the link above, and enjoy reading about the most recently tasted beers below. If you’d like to join the challenge as well, let me know in the comments below, and be sure to check out Grown-up Travel Guide and his #grownupbeerdiary, where Andy Higgs came up with the diary format in use below. You can catch up on all of our posts as part of the challenge under the tag ottbeerdiary.
Day 108: April 18, 2015
Diary entry:
Weekend! At last.
Late night last night; between the System of a Down concert and a few beers in town before taking the train home, I didn’t get to bed until after 2AM.
Nothing on the agenda today at least, until later in the day at least.
Around 5PM, I started to head down into Eindhoven, as tonight is the night PSV should be clinching the Dutch Eredivisie national title. I started to travel to Eindhoven intensely in 2004, and PSV won the Eredivisie in 2004–05, 2005–06, 2006–07, 2007–08. I moved to Taiwan in 2009, and PSV did not finish above third place the next few years. I’m back now, and while it took two years, PSV is now back on top again!
I didn’t have tickets to the game, but did watch in the city center with a very exuberant crowd. It’s always fun to watch a game like this surrounded by the home team fans who have bet on sites such as http://198.177.123.5/.
The Beer:
Name: Santé-18!
Style: Saison / Farmhouse Ale
Producer: Brasserie Fantôme
Alcohol content: 7.0%
Bottle size: 0.75l
Purchased from: De Hopduvel in Ghent, Belgium
Breaking out the patio cushions to drink this one outside on a beautiful Saturday. Sante-18 by Brasserie Fantome. Tastes like a fine blend of a lambic, a saison, and a cider. Very tasty, with the sour, the funk, and the apple all coming through.
Annually, Brasserie Fantome brews a beer for charity, and on August 15-16, 2014, this Sante-18! was available with proceeds benefiting CKG Kinderland Berlaar.
