22-Mar-2015 : Scratch 98 - Triple Mango IPA by Tröegs Brewing Company. 11.3% ABV and 125 IBUs, this beer is warming and bitter. And the mango really lingers in the aftertaste. A very well done beer. Just be sure to keep some motion in the glass before you sip, as the mango sediment will settle leaving you with pure IPA to drink and all the sediment left in the glass, which would be a pity, as they go so well together! #ottbeerdiary

This post is a part of the 2015 New Beer Every Day Beer Diary Challenge, #ottbeerdiary.  Over the course of 2015, I will be trying a new beer every day. Please read the background in the link above, and enjoy reading about the most recently tasted beers below. If you’d like to join the challenge as well, let me know in the comments below, and be sure to check out Grown-up Travel Guide and his #grownupbeerdiary, where Andy Higgs came up with the diary format in use below. You can catch up on all of our posts as part of the challenge under the tag ottbeerdiary.

Day 81: March 22, 2015

Diary entry:

Today, I did nothing.

Blessed nothing.

Never left the house other than to wander onto the balcony for a while to put the patio furniture back out. But a bit too chilly still to sit out there for long. I really need to pick up a grill for out there before this summer gets going. Can’t wait to move my photos from the kitchen island to the patio.

Tröegs is quickly moving up the list of my favorite US breweries! And to think I used to live only minutes away! This is part of their Scratch Beer Series, where they return to their homebrew roots experimenting with different styles and flavors.  This beer was actually apparently brewed in 2013, but prior had been brewed in 2012 using the winning recipe of a homebrew contest.

Commercial Description: Originally released as Scratch #58, Triple Mango IPA is inspired by an award-winning recipe from a local homebrew contest. It weighs in at a whopping 11.3% ABV and 125 IBUs and features copious amounts of Columbus, Nugget, Palisade, and Simcoe hops as well as cane sugar and Alphonso mangoes. Triple Mango IPA will be available on draft as well as a limited run of cases and six-packs.

For the full details on this beer, check out this post by the brewer who created the beer for the contest, Brad Moyer.
