This post is a part of the 2015 New Beer Every Day Beer Diary Challenge, #ottbeerdiary. Over the course of 2015, I will be trying a new beer every day. Please read the background in the link above, and enjoy reading about the most recently tasted beers below. If you’d like to join the challenge as well, let me know in the comments below, and be sure to check out Grown-up Travel Guide and his #grownupbeerdiary, where Andy Higgs came up with the diary format in use below. Day 147: May 27, 2015
Diary entry:
So today was the workshop I was expecting to have yesterday. Pretty good workshop too. People are starting to understand what it is we’re trying to accomplish.
A couple other work meetings, but again, fairly quiet still.
There’s so much to be done still, things will have to be picking up soon! So I keep plugging.
Left work at a normal hour, and finally am caught up on all of the beer diary posts after the three-week road trip.
That’s a bit of a relief.
House guest arrives tomorrow for the weekend, so that should be fun.
The Beer:
Name: Super Bock
Style: Pilsner
Producer: Unicer Bebidas
Alcohol content: 5.2%
Bottle size: 0.20l
Purchased from: Gas station near the Mercure Porto Gaia in Porto, Portugal
This lager is from Unicer Bebidas in Portugal. Picked it up at a gas station as we started our trip out to San Sebastian, only a 0.2l mini bottle. Weird funky aroma when I opened the bottle, but I actually waited a little to finish drinking, and it got to be pretty good by the end. A little bit fruity. With some decent bitterness. Almost a blonde ale style, but still definitely a lager.
Commercial Description (translated from Super Bock web site):
Authentic and magnetic, Super Bock Original is always present in your life. His positive energy and make it next beer par excellence for your social moments.
A light pilsener beer, golden, fine and refreshing taste.
Winner of thirty consecutive gold medals at the prestigious Monde Selection international competition, the Super Bock Original is recognized internationally for its high quality.
Launched in 1927, and with an alcohol content of 5.2%, Super Bock is part of the group of beers known as lagers (bottom-fermented beers).
The selection of the best varieties of malt and hops, as well as the use of a pure and special yeast and the best conditions for the process, allow to obtain a blond, bright and lively beer with a very pure white and creamy foam. Its fresh aroma, slightly malty and fruity, medium body and balanced flavor, bitterness well structured with sweet malt and the end of light and dry, style as own mouth, put the Super Bock at a higher level. This harmony like everyone, and it is appreciated by millions of followers of Portugal and the world faithful who prefer their unique flavor.
