After only getting three hours sleep the night before, it’s now after 2am as I write this from the hotel in Czech Republic. Between getting a late start, ridiculous amounts of traffic, heavy rain, and three accidents (including one fatality), we didn’t make it nearly as far as we hoped today.
However, I had great eats in both Germany and Czech Republic. Since Germany is somewhere the OTT team visits regularly, we skipped doing any sightseeing per se and hurriedly made our way directly to Pilsen, Czech Republic — the home of Pilsner Urquell beer. Sadly, all the delays prevented us from getting on the last brewery tour, but we had time instead to check out the town and snap a few photos before heading to the restaurant for some local Czech cuisine. We sampled the unfiltered Pilsner Urquell you can only get here and had an absolutely fantastic dinner for next to nothing.
We pushed on for several hours after Pilsen and are currently in the charming city of Brno, Czech Republic. When driving into the city off the highway,Brno seemed very modern with high rise buildings and lots of corporate offices. However, one left turn and we were suddenly at the old city center which is absolutely breathtaking at night, especially with the cathedral perched high above the walls, illuminated in the fog. And obviously, this city stays happening pretty late as there are plenty of people partying in the main square just outside my bedroom window.
Day two of this crazy #TastyRT13 will see us heading out around 8am and go through Vienna (Austria), Bratislava (Slovakia), and Budapest (Hungary), ultimately spending the night Romania. Day two promises to be a day of wine no doubt!
Looking forward to writing up the blog posts on all the food and drink we’ve had so far — everything has been incredible, except perhaps for the licorice lemonade flavored soda we bought in Pilsen. Yuck. In the meantime, here’s quick look at our adventures on Day 1 of #TastyRT13.

Great foodie cities! I loved everything in Germany and Austria, Czech Republic not as much
Czech Republic has been one of my favorites! LOL But today in Slovakia was by far the best so far. OMG, I would fly back just for the microbrewery we ate at! 😀
The Grandezza located on the Town Square marked in Brno has a fabulous Italian restaurant that is well-worth visiting – try the Italian veal, its not on the menu but man it is delicious.
Oh my gosh…..the food looks “AMAZING!” Did you take your “tums”? LOL! Enjoying your trip thanks for sharing! Big hug’s, Uncle Doug & Aunt DiEtta
