This post is a part of the 2015 New Beer Every Day Beer Diary Challenge, #ottbeerdiary.  Over the course of 2015, I will be trying a new beer every day. Please read the background in the link above, and enjoy reading about the most recently tasted beers below. If you’d like to join the challenge as well, let me know in the comments below, and be sure to check out Grown-up Travel Guide and his #grownupbeerdiary, where Andy Higgs came up with the diary format in use below. You can catch up on all of our posts as part of the challenge under the tag ottbeerdiary.

Day 141: May 21, 2015

Diary entry:

Took the morning off so I could be at the hospital to pick up Erin when they released her. The doctor was supposed to be there around 9-10 AM, so I figured, no problem. I can get her home by noon, and be in the office in the afternoon if needed.

Well, things took a little longer than expected.

Doctor came by pretty much on time, around 10:15 – 10:30, but needed to consult with her supervisor for releasing Erin since we didn’t know what caused the reaction.

He finally popped in around 12:15, and it was all agreed for her to be released, just needed some notes written up to give to Erin’s doctor back in the states so they can run a allergy panel on her there (much quicker than trying to get an appointment here in the Netherlands) which should have been ready in an hour or so.

We finally got the paperwork and released around 3:30PM!

The pharmacy at the hospital was having network issues, so we had to hit a pharmacy in Boxtel. Good to know where it is, since I had never had to go to it before. Two prescriptions for under €30! And that’s not copay, that’s the total I need to submit to insurance. That part definitely reminds me of the Taiwanese system.

By this time, no point in trying to go to work, so just called it a wash and a quiet evening at home.

The Beer:

21-May-2015 : Überwasser Alt by Gruthaus - A very nice Alt. Decent bitterness, not too malty. A little fruity. Not bad at all. #ottbeerdiary
Überwasser Alt by Gruthaus

Name: Überwasser Alt

Style: Altbier

Producer: Gruthaus

Alcohol content: 5.0%

Bottle size: 0.33l

Purchased from: Edeka in Kleve, Germany

A very nice Alt. Decent bitterness, not too malty. A little fruity. Not bad at all.

Commercial Description:

Light, fresh, fruity

Bright Old traditional, local beer specialty from Münster. Our Überwasser Alt top-fermented, bright, and with a slightly sour note by natural malolactic fermentation, as is typical for Münster Alt. We have this beer style carefully modernized: with a lot of fine citrus hop varieties “Citra” and “Amarillo”, enhance the fresh and fruity character of the beer.

Überwasser Alt is not filtered, in barrels and bottles is a natural lees. A small proportion of wheat malt makes it so lively.

12.5 ° P, 5.0% vol. Ingredients: water, barley malt, wheat malt, yeast, hops.
