This post is a part of the 2015 New Beer Every Day Beer Diary Challenge, #ottbeerdiary. Over the course of 2015, I will be trying a new beer every day. Please read the background in the link above, and enjoy reading about the most recently tasted beers below. If you’d like to join the challenge as well, let me know in the comments below, and be sure to check out Grown-up Travel Guide and his #grownupbeerdiary, where Andy Higgs came up with the diary format in use below. Day 307: November 3, 2015
Diary entry:
Early morning start at work today. Apparently the people in Hong Kong don’t arrive in the office overly early, as they often stay later for calls with the Netherlands. So I had the office to myself for a while this morning to catch up on emails and reading from last week’s vacation.
A long day of meetings, discussing mostly the big open topic. Yesterday we had a good proposed solution, but turns out the one concern I had with it turned out to be a glaring fault and we have to start over. Let’s see if we can close this one tomorrow.
Met up with an old friend from TravBuddy, who happened to also be in Hong Kong this week, for dinner at Din Tai Fung. We do miss those dumplings!
After dinner, we tried to find some more of the craft ice cream shops we had been looking for in Mong Kok, but it seems they may have all closed, or just been closed for the night, so we settled in to TAP: The Ale Project to sample some of their local beer offerings.
The Beer:
Name: Young Master Ales tasting flight
Style: See below
Producer: Young Master Ales of Hong Kong
Alcohol content: see below
Bottle size: 0.17 l draft
Purchased from: T.A.P. – The Ale Project in Mong Kok, Hong Kong
Young Master Ales is one of the craft breweries that have opened in Hong Kong in recent years, and was the one I was most interested in trying. Arriving at TAP and seeing a number of their beers on draft, we decided to go for the tasting flight so we could sample a few of them.
The Young Master Classic – American Pale Ale. 5% ABV. Nice citrus pale ale. Decent bitterness. Very good.
Island 1842 Imperial IPA – Imperial IPA. 8% ABV. A very good imperial IPA. Good hops and some fruity flavor.
Young Master Festbier – Oktoberfest Lager. 5.9% ABV. A little watery. Not too much flavor for me.
Cha Chaan Teng Gose 鹹檸啤 – Gose. 4% ABV. Very Limey. Sour. A bit salty. Quite good.
Four Leaves IPA – American IPA. 6.8% ABV. Bai Makrut leaves infused. Quite an interesting flavor. Hoppy. Lemony. Floral. Very green. Collaboration with Boxing Cat Brewery.
