This post is a part of the 2015 New Beer Every Day Beer Diary Challenge, #ottbeerdiary. Over the course of 2015, I will be trying a new beer every day. Please read the background in the link above, and enjoy reading about the most recently tasted beers below. If you’d like to join the challenge as well, let me know in the comments below, and be sure to check out Grown-up Travel Guide and his #grownupbeerdiary, where Andy Higgs came up with the diary format in use below. Day 321: November 17, 2015
Diary entry:
What happens when you squeeze 30 people into a conference room meant for 12? Unfortunately, not as much as you want. Seems we spent more time today on the logistics of the room than the content of the sessions, but this is bound to happen when meetings are scheduled at the last moment. At least we have better facilities for the rest of the week.
Best intentions had me planning to visit the gym after work today, but that didn’t happen. Jet lag is kicking my butt this week, and I’m having trouble staying awake!
The Beer:
Name: Zipacna
Style: Oaked Rye Chipotle Stout
Producer: Totem
Alcohol content: 8.5%
Bottle size: 0.33 l
Purchased from: De Hopduvel bottle shop in Ghent, Belgium
Zipacna Oaked Rye Chipotle Stout by Totem. Smoky and spicy. And dark roasted flavors. Chocolate and coffee. With some sweetness underneath. Pretty good!
Commercial Description (Bottle label translated):
According to the Mayans, Zipacna was the demonic personification of the Earth’s crust: an arrogant, powerful demon who, according to myth, was buried under the wooden pillars of the hut of the patron gods of the alcohol that threatened him.
Zipacna itself squeezed this beer from the blood of the buried bodies, colored black as fresh lava and then left in the oak posts of the huts. As it befits a demon, he added a fiery element in the form of smoked chipotle peppers.
